Bankgiro
A Bankgiro number is a Swedish payment identifier connected to a business’s bank arrangement for receiving payments through Bankgirot. On invoices it tells the payer where to send a Bankgiro payment, often together with an invoice or OCR reference for matching. It is not the same as an organisation number, bank account number, or proof that payment has been completed.
Why this matters when you invoice
A clear payment destination and reference reduce the chance that a payer sends money to the wrong place or that the seller cannot match the incoming payment to an invoice.
Where it appears
The Bankgiro number usually sits in the payment section of a Swedish invoice. An OCR reference can appear nearby, but it serves a different reconciliation purpose.
Destination and reference are different fields
A seller asks a customer to pay to the seller's Bankgiro and includes an OCR reference for the invoice. The customer uses the Bankgiro as the destination and the OCR value as the payment reference; neither field should be substituted for the other.
Common mistakes
- Putting the OCR reference in the Bankgiro field.
- Confusing Bankgiro with the company's organisationsnummer.
- Assuming a formatted number proves the payment destination belongs to the intended recipient.
Check a Swedish OCR reference
If your Bankgiro arrangement uses OCR references, validate the reference separately before placing it on the invoice.
InvoiceCraftly does not verify ownership or activation of a Bankgiro number; confirm payment details with the recipient or its bank arrangement.
